The new Boston University Online Program for Financial Planners is a
multimedia, interactive educational experience that includes input and
guidance from outstanding faculty drawn from major financial institutions in
the Boston area. In addition, when you complete CFP Board-Registered Boston University Online Program for Financial Planners, you will fulfill the educational component for the CFP® certification.
Program Curriculum
The Boston University Online Program for Financial Planners is a self-paced, web-based program designed to encompass the practical experience of Boston University experts and prepare users with the finest financial planning education. Based on one of the nation’s oldest and most successful classroom-based CFP Board-Registered Programs in the country, the online program was developed by BU faculty and e-Learning designers using content from faculty and renowned authors. Successful completion of all six courses signifies that you have completed the education component of the CFP ® certification set forth by CFP Board.
The program includes six courses covering the following subject areas:
- Introduction to Financial Planning
- Risk Management
- Investments
- Tax Planning
- Retirement Planning and Employee Benefits
- Estate Planning

Boston University does not certify individuals to use the CFP®, Certified Financial Planner™ and marks. CFP® certification is granted solely by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. to individuals who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP Board-Registered Program, have met ethics, experience and examination requirements.
