Paralegal Career Seminar PARA210
This seminar is taught over two 3-hour evening sessions. The first night students will learn the importance of networking in a job search, and the most effective ways to accomplish this. Strategies are reviewed for initiating and maintaining a successful employment search using the internet, researching legal periodicals, and consulting placement agents. Basic cover letter and resume writing are covered: how to organize your resume and maximize your results, and the do's and don'ts of a paralegal's resume. Interviewing techniques, including what type of questions to ask during an interview, will be addressed. Students learn how to research a firm or corporation so that his/her questions reflect a degree of awareness of that firm's business (a sure way to score points on an interview). The second night is comprised of individual student resume critiques in 20 minute appointments. Students are expected to revise and implement changes to their resumes after the first class and prior to the second class for individual feedback. Students are encouraged to bring a laptop to class, if they have one, for use during the class.
